Why do LED highbays look different from your conventional HID highbays?

There is a basic difference in the technology for a start, and clearly this should be reflected in the light design itself.  LED’s do not require the traditional reflector. Why? Because bulbs emit light in all directions and LED’s are directional.

Higher efficiency? Why are LED’s better? Don’t believe me, try google …. And you’ll find the answer is the difference in technology. No longer are you using a carbon filament or such derived from Thomas Edison’s 1879 patent.

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are solid state devices that convert electric energy directly into light of a single colour. Because they employ “cold” light generation technology, in which most of the energy is delivered in the visible spectrum, LED’s don’t waster energy in the form of non-light producing heat.

The lack of resistance style lighting means a lack of heat produced in process. Heat is simply lost energy in the lighting process. This is one of the primary efficiency gains of LED’s and why they don’t require on enormous heatsinks like conventional HID lights.

Basically if it looks like a conventional highbay then it’s not a properly designed LED highbay.

So why do you see LED’s that look like conventional highbays ? Well ease of manufacture for most. It’s easy to replace the bulb with an LED or simply for looks. The important points the remember are LED’s are;
